Over the past few decades, the world experienced a growing obesity epidemic, which profoundly affected the quality of life of billions of individuals. Hence, it became a global public health challenge. The danger of Obesity lies in its contribution to many other comorbidities, including diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and cardiovascular disease. However, growing evidences show that the surrounding environment we live in, as well as individuals choices we make, contribute to the obesity growth around the world. It is particularly dangerous for young people, and the socially disadvantaged communities, and it is increasing with such Intensity that we must act now and quickly.

Physical activity plays an important role in preventing obesity and overweight states during childhood and adolescence, which reduces the risk of obesity during adulthood. According to WHO, globally, it is estimated that sedentary lifestyle and insufficient physical activity is the 4th leading risk factor for mortality. Approximately 3.2 million deaths and 32.1 million Disability-Adjusted Life Year DALYs (representing about 2.1% of global DALYs) each year are attributable to insufficient physical activity (WHO).

Running is one of the healthiest sport that exist. Scientific evidence shows that on average runners tend to get ill less often than other athletes do. Also, Scientific studies are multiplying and show that running can prevent a lot of diseases, and be curative in some cases.

The international days of sport and obesity, that will be organized by the institute of sport professions (IMS) in collaboration with the doctoral studies center (CED), will represent an opportunity to connect scientists, academics, and students interested in the field of physical activity and energy homeostasis research. These scientific days will enable to debate about the latest scientific findings, and to raise awareness concerning obesity. The IMS aims, through these days, to encourage Health related athletic events that will benefit Kenitra city.

 

The closing of these international days will be crowned with the organization of a road race entitled “Running for Health”
